It was never my intention to be in the trade, but I've been doing it for 27 years now. My career began in the late 90's when my brother decided to open a residential HVAC business. The start-up intrigued me and I wanted to be a part of it. Without prior AC knowledge, handling calls and understanding what we were billing for and/or receiving was a challenge. As I worked at the office and at home, I studied a HVAC basics book. When I was in the office, I would take the book out to the warehouse with some tools to dissect Air Handlers, Condensers, and package units.

Using my basics book and occasional help from my brother, I quickly caught on and requested hands-on experience in the field. I became the company's all-in-one asset. Assisting with installations, service calls, and major repairs in the field. Developing my knowledge of basic components, duct work, duct sizing, and troubleshooting systems every day. In order to qualify the business I took courses and continued my hands on training to obtain the State of Florida exam for my mechanical contracting license. In addition to this licensure, I extended my studies to obtain certifications as an Energy Rater, LEED Green Associate and Mold inspector / Remediator.

After leaving the company, I worked for a manufacturer for a short time and then for a private contractor. At this point, I had to prove my worth and value again, working my way up to eventually managing a 5-person office with approximately 20 service techs and 6 installation crews. My decision to leave after almost 10 years to start my consulting business led me to manage HVAC for a portfolio of 13 Charter schools and commission a public-school SMART project.

In early 2023, I was co-owner of an HVAC company, and in late 2023, we opened a second one. As a young professional in this industry, it was never easy to have small children. Children couldn't understand why mommy was picking them up at after care wearing work boots, her hair all a mess, and dirt all over her clothes. Today, my children are my employees, and they have expressed their admiration for my tenacity and desire to provide. I hope that my journey has empowered my daughter to believe that she can do anything, and that the only limit to her potential is her own mind. The greatness I see in her is already evident, and I hope it doesn't take her half as long to find her passion and achieve her goals. People say the "times are different now" when it comes to "women in a man's world," but are they? The only way to make a change is to be the change. Be fierce, Be Confident and Be Humble.
